Basic molecular techniques in Laboratory Course

  • Shahid Beheshti University of medical sciences
  • Research Institute for Endocrine Sciences, Tehran
  • The Iranian genome project, Gemiran
  • July 30- August 15, 2022
  • General Information

The course of Basic Laboratory molecular techniques will be held in Gemiran/Tehran from July 30 through August 15, 2022. The cost of the 30 hours course is 7,500,000 Rials for student, academic, and government researchers. This fee covers tuition and course-related expenses (cloud computing, etc.). The course emphasis is on basic laboratory techniques. The attendance will be familiar with:
  • Common lab calculation

  • As part of your labs, you will often have to calculate the amounts of the different reagents you will be using and convert them from one unit of measure to another. Additionally, you will have to calculate the theoretical yield of your reactions and the percent yield of your reactions once you have isolated the product. In this course, you will be familiar with these calculations
  • Biomarker screening

  • Biomarkers are biological molecules found in the blood or tissue that indicate a normal or abnormal process in the body. Biomarker testing at the time of diagnosis is a critical first step in getting patients on the right treatment plan. You will be familiar with the lab's spectrophotometry and Enzyme link assay (ELISA).
  • Common techniques in molecular marker analysis

  • You will be familiar with DNA and RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, PCR, RT-PCR, and electrophoresis. PCR-based markers are second-generation molecular markers based on DNA sequence polymorphisms detected by PCR amplification of the sample DNAs. The DNA polymorphisms are reflected in the amplification products from the target regions of the sample DNAs.

    Course Instructors

The instructors for the course are Dr. Maryam Daneshpour, Prof Mehdi Hedayati, Dr. Maryam Zarkesh, and their team in the lab.
